DOJ Demands Google Parent Alphabet’s Records On Antitrust Probe
Alphabet, the parent company of Google has recently got a compulsory request for providing more information from the Justice Department regarding the firm’s earlier antitrust investigations. The tech giant has informed this on September 6, 2019. The company informed their investors that they got the request on August 30, 2019. It also recognized a bunch of antitrust investigations by many state attorneys general. The company mentioned in their filing that they would continue to provide every bit of cooperation to DOJ, both the federal and state regulators of United States and also any other regulators from different corners of the world.
This disclosure has also exposed the first public recognition by Google and its parent company Alphabet that they are engaged with Justice Department’s massive reviews on large players in Silicon Valley which had been declared back in July. The filing however does not specify what information DOJ wants on earlier investigations. Huge pressure has built upon big tech companies for months now following Federal Trade Commission’s establishment of a special task force meant to look closely into the past of the industry. They have also made a pact with DOJ for dividing the task of supervising the companies which also includes Google.
Justice Department has denied making any comment on the statement. On September 6, 2019, a certain group of 9 attorneys general from almost eight states as well as District of Columbia mentioned that they would be launching antitrust probe against Facebook. The probe would look after Facebook’s way of managing user data, acquisitions, mergers and their influence in the market of advertising. It is indeed hard to know what the next step would be by the Justice Department in order to understand more regarding the ways of management of the tech giants.
